FAQ Answers

Compatibility with O2M
Which OS X programs will accept my Outlook data?
Apple Mail 1.x and above, Apple Address Book 1.1 and above, Apple Contacts, and all versions of iCalendar should import data exported by O2M. If you are using a non-Apple mail or calendar program like Entourage, check to make sure it can import industry-standard formats like mBox, vCard, and iCal.

Which versions of Windows are supported?
Windows 98 and above have been tested.

Which Outlook versions does O2M support?
All versions of Microsoft Outlook from Office/Outlook 98 and above. Note that O2M will not work with Outlook Express or Outlook for the Mac; it is designed to export data from regular Outlook on a PC only.

Will O2M work with .PST files?
Yes, but only if the PST file is visible in Outlook. (If it isn't visible, go into Outlook and choose File->Open PST file to make it visible).

Purchasing, Installing, and Upgrading O2M

How is O2M licensed?
Licenses are sold individually. You can buy one or several licenses at a time. If you need tens, hundreds, or thousands of licenses, contact Little Machines for possible corporate volume discounts.

Do I have to pay for O2M upgrades? How do I install them?
O2M upgrades are free. To install an upgrade, install it just like you did the first time you installed O2M.

Administrator settings won't let me install O2M
O2M doesn't make registry modifications other than the regular modifications required of any program when it installs. If your corporate settings are so strict that you can't install software, try installing O2M onto another computer, then copying its folder to the machine where you're trying to install it. Once the files have been copied, run the program and register it with your serial number; this may bypass administrator rules that don't allow formal software installations.

If you are running Vista, right-click on the O2M installer (.exe) and try choosing Run As Administrator. This may fix the problem. If you are running Vista and the above doesn't fix the problem, try disabling User Account Control— see this link: http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

I lost my serial number
Sometimes emails get lost, but it's not a problem. Just email Customer Support with your name and email address, and they'll try to find it for you.

What languages are supported by O2M?
O2M has been tested with a variety of UTF-8 & Unicode character sets. Make sure that UTF-8 is enabled in Outlook before running O2M. If the file doesn't import properly into your OS X program, try re-saving the exported files that were produced by O2M as Unicode files: open the exported file in Windows Notepad, choose Save As, and select Unicode from the Encoding menu—then try importing the file into your OS X program. There are a huge number of possible variations in character sets, fonts, and encodings, so you may need to do some experimenting to see what format works best for you and your language.

Running O2M
O2M refuses to run on my PC
Make sure you are trying to run O2M on a regular PC that is running Windows 98 or higher with Outlook installed. Try running other programs to make sure that your PC isn't having a Windows or memory problem. Try rebooting if the problem doesn't go away.

O2M didn't convert any emails, or says Inbox is empty
Try restarting O2M. If that doesn't solve the issue, make sure you are choosing the correct folders; your Outlook setup might have 2, 3, or more Inboxes. If the problem persists, O2M may be having trouble connecting to Outlook; you might need to temporarily disable any security or anti-virus software.

O2M halts long before finishing its processing
Try running O2M again; sometimes network or process interference in Windows or Outlook can interfere with conversions. If that doesn't work, try converting smaller sets of messages and calendar items; you can limit how many are converted at a time by setting the date ranges in the O2M menus.

Am I able to use both O2M and Outlook simultaneously?
Yes, and this is recommended; having Outlook open generally causes O2M to run more efficiently. We don't recommend using Outlook actively while O2M is busy converting data, however; wait until O2M has finished converting before sending email with Outlook.

Where does O2M export/save its data on my PC?
Typically exported data is stored in files in the C:\My_Outlook_Files folder, unless you choose a different folder where you'd like files exported.

After O2M finishes, how do I get my Outlook files onto my Mac?
Move the exported Outlook data files using a USB drive, external hard disk, or network.

Error Messages
My serial number appears to be wrong.
Try copying and pasting your serial number into O2M from the confirmation email you received from Little Machines to avoid typos.

O2M says that it cannot connect to Outlook
Make sure Outlook (not Outlook Express) is installed, and that you are running O2M on a regular PC. Ensure that there isn't an anti-virus or other program running that may be interfering with O2M's ability to run. If you still have problems, run Windows Update and ensure that you have the latest Microsoft Windows updates.

'OLEAUT32.DLL is out of date'.
Usually this means that your version of Outlook is running with outdated drivers. If this problem persists, update your PC's Internet Explorer browser to at least version 5.5. Next, install the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) from Microsoft, then reboot your PC. In most cases the problem should go away.

Error 91 or Error -2147467259?
Make sure you are using Outlook 98 or higher on a regular PC with Windows 98 or higher installed, and that you're not running on a Mac or in a virtual environment. Double-check that Outlook is properly installed; you should be able to run it and see your emails without errors. Make sure no corporate or security software is running that prohibits access to Outlook from a program like O2M. Try rebooting your computer. If that doesn't work, you may need to move your emails in a PST file to another PC and try exporting them from there.

Unable to access C:\Program Files (x86)\O2M\mime64.exe
Some versions of Windows have rights issues under the Program Files directory, which may prevent O2M from properly being able to write your Outlook data to your disk. If you encounter this error, try re-installing O2M into this directory instead: C:\O2M

Can O2M handle Outlook distribution lists?
If Outlook2Mac encounters a distribution list name (e.g., MyList) in an email To: or From: field, it will simply pass that list name along, rather than expanding it into tens, hundreds, or thousands of email addresses. As for distribution lists stored in Outlook's Address Book, these are not exported because they simply don't import properly in any versions of OS X's Address Book we tested. OS X does not follow all of the vCard standard format tags, which causes distribution lists to be imported into OS X in Notes fields for contacts, rather than as distinct email addresses in CC: and BCC: fields for a given distribution list. So, if a distribution needs to be maintained from Outlook to OS X, it needs to be recreated manually. If you Google around, you'll find that a lot of people ask this question, and so far we haven't received a satisfactory answer from Apple, unfortunately.

Importing OutlookData Into OS X Programs
Importing into Apple Mail, iCal, or Address Book
Follow the instructions under Help on the Little Machines website for step-by-step instructions for importing your exported Outlook data into your OS X programs—see the section on Importing. Generally, importing involves copying or moving the exported files to your Mac, then importing the file(s) into their correct/respective programs.

Importing into non-Apple programs
As long as your non-Apple program supports industry-standard formats like Mbox, iCal, and vCard, you should be able to import the files that were created by O2M when it exported your Outlook data. As a rough guide, take a look at the instructions under Help on the Little Machines website for step-by-step instructions for importing your exported Outlook data into your OS X programs--see the section on Importing.

Apple Mail or Entourage emails display the wrong date
O2M uses American/US English date formatting, which is the Outlook default. In Outlook, make sure that your date formatting is set to US English. Other formats may result in improperly formatted dates.

Address Book contacts won't save in Lion
Some versions of Lion's Address Book have an importing bug that causes contacts to not be saved after they've been imported. To work around this, first import the full list of vCards as you have been doing. Next, before you exit Address Book, select all of the contacts you just imported. Go to the File menu and choose to export all of the contacts as a vCard, and save it to your desktop—you are basically taking all of the individual vCards you just imported and exporting them into a single vCard file. Next, close and relaunch Address Book, then re-import the single vCard you just created. All of your contacts should import properly. (If you wind up with duplicate contacts, you may need to delete them from Address Book before attempting the import of the bulk vCard). Finally, relaunch Address Book. All of your contacts should be there, saved properly. This method isn't pretty, but it's worked for most customers who have the buggy version of Address Book in Lion.
